Application Process

  • When can a student apply to NHS?

The selection of active members shall be held once a year during the first semester of the school year.  New members shall be inducted into the organization in the spring of each year.

What are the eligibility requirements for FBISD students interested in joining NHS at AHS?

New members shall be selected from a list compiled by the Registrar of all students deemed eligible in accord with the scholastic requirements and conditions set forth in Article III. A copy of such list and the date of an information session will be given to English or Social Studies teachers to post in the classroom and a copy will also be posted in the library of the high school. All interested students should attend the information session where they will obtain a letter advising them of the procedures and requirements of membership in NHS. This letter must be signed by the parents of the eligible student and returned within five school days of the information session. Upon return of the letter, the students shall receive a Student Activity Information Form, which will be used to evaluate leadership and service.

Candidates can apply their Junior or Senior year.  If a student has already been selected and inducted into NHS within FBISD and transfers to another FBISD campus, the student remains an NHS member and must continue to meet the criteria set forth. If a student had already been selected and inducted into NHS at another school district/campus, the student remains an NHS member for the first semester and then must meet our district criteria to remain in NHS. Per district criteria, the student must have an 85/100 or better on the official GPA (transcript)—all courses with numeric course grades are included. Per district criteria, the student may not have failed any course on the final grade for the course

    When are decisions made?

Selection and inductions occur during the spring semester.  The Faculty Council will render a decision as to the selection of each eligible candidate by majority vote based on scholarship, character evaluation by the faculty, and satisfactory completion by each candidate of the Student Activity Information Form.
