Daniel J. Becerra, CPO, USN (ret)
Chief Daniel Becerra is a native of the Houston area. He graduated from Alvin High School and served in the US Navy from September 7, 1995, until he retired on October 31, 2015. While on active duty, Chief Becerra served onboard USS Enterprise CVN-65 in Norfolk, VA, from June 1996 - April 2001. During this tour, he completed 2 Mediterranean/Persian Gulf deployments. Enterprise supported Desert Fox, 16 - 19 December 1998. He earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation, was advanced to Petty Officer Second Class, and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Chief then went on to serve at the Naval War College in Newport, RI, from April 2001 until March 2004. He supported many international students and managed war gaming systems, allowing classroom lessons to meet near real-world events. He was awarded his 2nd Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He then reported to the USS Cape St. George CG-71 in Norfolk, VA. He supported Operation Iraqi Freedom, and On March 18, 2006, the ship was involved in a firefight with suspected pirates about 25 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia. One suspected pirate was killed, and five others were wounded. In July 2007, the ship was moved to San Diego, CA. While serving, he was promoted to Petty Officer First Class. He earned his Air Intercept Controller en route, and while on board, he earned his Combat Information Center Watch Officer qualification, Interface Control Officer, and Combat Systems Senior Enlisted designations and his third Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He was then transferred to Naval Special Warfare Group Four and provided support for various special warfare deployments. He earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer in September of 2010 and his first Navy Commendation Medal. He then opted to serve aboard the USS Fort McHenry, homeported in Little Creek, VA, in August 2011. On September 11, 2012, militants in connection with Al-Qaeda attacked the US consulate in Benghazi. Fort McHenry was ordered, along with its marine detachment, to station itself off the coast of Lybia. Chief Becerra served as the Operations Department's Leading Chief and conducted his 6th and 7th deployments while on board. He then retired on October 31, 2015.
Chief Daniel Becerra then earned his Bachelor's of Fine Arts from Virginia Wesleyan University March 2018 with honors. August 5, 2019 he became the Naval Science Instructor at Pasco High School NNDCC in Dade City Florida until Septemeber of 2022. He then moved to backed to Houston and as of Novemeber 29, 2022 is the Naval Science Instructor at Austin High School NJROTC in Sugar Land ,TX. Chief is currently enrolled in the Masters of Theology Program at Regent University.
