Fort Bend ISD provides high school students with a variety of opportunities to participate in online and distance learning. These opportunities allow both students and teachers the opportunity to learn beyond the traditional classroom.
The O-LAB Program consists of a variety of online learning options. Each high school, Progressive, and the Reese CTE Center all have online learning labs and at least one full-time online teacher. Students work with their counselors and develop plans that can include traditional and non-traditional coursework. The O-LAB options include several ways to access online coursework.

Campus O-LAB Programs
Fort Bend ISD utilizes the Edgenuity learning management system and a catalog of courses for various locally managed programs. Students can take Edgenuity courses as part of their regular daily schedule for original credit or credit recovery. Some students choose to take an extra course beyond their regular daily school schedule. Various Summer O-LAB programs are available, too. Students must work with their campus counselor to apply for O-LAB, obtain approval, and adhere to the O-LAB guidelines for program eligibility. Course grades earned will be included on the student's FBISD transcript.
External Providers
In some instances, FBISD students may earn credit through the approved providers listed below. Students must submit the O-LAB External Provider application (found under Online Forms in Family Access) to their campus counselor for approval. Any credit earned without prior approval of the counselor will be denied. Students are subject to policies, procedures, expectations, and timelines set by each provider. Course grades provided by any approved external provider will be included on a student's FBISD transcript. Prices may vary. Limitations apply.
- TXVSN (Texas Virtual School Network) – The Texas Education Agency (TEA) provides online courses to eligible students through the Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN). The TXVSN course catalog works in partnership with Texas public schools to provide their students with opportunities to enroll in high school, Advanced Placement, and dual-credit courses offered by TEA-approved catalog course providers. Students must begin the application process with their counselor and complete registration and payment through the O-LAB Manager at their campus.
- University of Texas High School and Texas Tech University K-12 – Students may take online high school courses provided by the University of Texas or Texas Tech University. Students must begin the application process with their counselor and complete registration and tuition payments with the university provider.

EIC (LOCAL) — Academic Achievement: Class Ranking
Class Rank System
The District shall record Weighted 100 point scale, weighted 4.0 scale, and the unweighted 4.0 GPA on student transcripts. All courses recorded on the academic achievement record (high school transcript) shall count toward GPA and class rank using the grades received, with the exception of courses taken on a GPA-exempt basis and, beginning with the class of 2029, any credits earned through virtual learning beyond the first two. These courses shall be weighted by category when calculating GPA. Courses taken in fulfillment of an endorsement shall not be excluded from the GPA.

EHDE(LOCAL) - ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR EARNING CREDIT: DISTANCE LEARNING
Limitations
Beginning in the summer of 2026, a student may earn a maximum of two high school state-required original credits through an approved out-of-District virtual learning provider. This limitation does not apply to in-District virtual learning experiences offered on campus or through the TxVSN. Seniors may earn additional credits for credit recovery if approved by the principal or designee.
Students may take a distance learning course from an out-of-District distance provider that requires a state-mandated end-of-course (EOC) assessment with prior approval through the application process and in accordance with the student's graduation plan. The Superintendent or designee may waive limitations on an individual basis for extenuating circumstances.
Enrollment in courses through the TxVSN shall not be subject to limitations the District may impose for other distance learning courses [See EHDE(LEGAL)].
-
EHDE(LOCAL) - ALTERNATIVE METHODS FOR EARNING CREDIT: DISTANCE LEARNING
Adopted 11/17/2025
Prior to enrollment in an out-of-District distance learning course, an application must be submitted on behalf of the student to the principal or designee for approval to enroll in the course. All supplies, materials, textbooks, fees, and transportation for out-of-District distance learning courses shall be the responsibility of the student and his or her parent. In case of hardship, the student may be awarded tuition assistance or a scholarship to assist with the cost.
If approval is not granted prior to enrollment, the student shall receive course credit only, without grade points applied toward their GPA calculation.
