This year there are three draft calendars for consideration. Each calendar focuses on supporting teacher planning and preparation for high-quality learning experiences as well as breaks across the year for our Fort Bend ISD families and staff. The school calendar options allocate time for teaching and learning across 187 days and were developed through the work of student, staff, parent, community focus groups, and calendar Core Teams that include teachers, principals, and district staff.

All calendar options include: 

• At least 75,600 operational minutes (440 minutes for each full day of instruction)
• A minimum bank of 840 additional minutes to use in the event of bad weather and other issues of health and safety, as required by the Texas Education Agency
• Professional learning and teacher planning embedded within the school year
• Consistent and regular breaks each month including a fall break
• Traditional holiday structure (a weeklong Thanksgiving break, a two-week winter break, a weeklong Spring Break)
• A later start to the school year (than the current year) for teachers and students including a midweek start to school
• End the 1st semester before winter break
• An increase in the number of full weeks of instruction
• End the school year in May
