School Lunch Hero Day
Posted by Briana Garcia on 4/24/2025Annually, on the first Friday in May, we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day! School Lunch Hero Day provides the perfect opportunity to recognize and thank our hard-working professionals in your school cafeterias.
We are thrilled to share the success of this year's School Lunch Hero Day celebration! Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller, along with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, joined us at the ballpark to honor our dedicated school nutrition professionals. Commissioner Miller recognized their unwavering commitment to providing nutritious meals to our students.
Our #FBISDFoodie team enjoyed an exciting game at the ballpark, culminating in a victory for the Space Cowboys! We deeply appreciate the remarkable contributions of our team.
Looking ahead, we are committed to continuing to highlight the outstanding efforts of our school nutrition team. Their dedication ensures that our students receive the best possible meals every day.

Wrapping Up National Nutrition Month with Engaging Events and Student Spotlights
Posted by Briana Garcia on 3/27/2025 4:00:00 PMMarch was a month full of excitement, engagement, and celebration for the Fort Bend ISD Child Nutrition Department as we embraced National Nutrition Month with a variety of activities, student-led initiatives, and special events. From School Breakfast Week to CACFP Week, National Ag Day, and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) Day, we highlighted the importance of nutritious meals and the many ways food connects us all.
A highlight of the month was welcoming Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith to Scanlan Oaks Elementary, where he joined in on the School Breakfast Week fun by participating in school breakfast and presenting the winning student detective with their School Breakfast Prize. His support underscored the vital role of starting the day with a balanced meal.
The Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) actively participated in National Nutrition Month with student leadership cohorts at the James Reese CTE Center. The smoothie bike was a huge hit, giving students a fun way to blend their own fruit and veggie smoothies, made possible by generous donations from H-E-B! Students had the chance to sample delicious, nutrient-packed smoothies while also celebrating two standout recipes from our recent CTE Chopped competition: Huevos Rancheros and Chorizo & Potato Breakfast Tacos, both crafted by our talented culinary students at the James Reese CTE Center.
Additionally, we proudly highlighted our Adopt a Cow program at Malala Elementary, incorporating farm-to-school initiatives and resources that connected students with agricultural education. As we transition into spring, our hydroponic Flex Farm is thriving with fresh herbs, which we look forward to incorporating into future menu offerings.
Beyond hands-on experiences, we expanded our online resources, curating activities and tools around this year’s National Nutrition Month theme: “Food Connects Us.” Through these celebrations, we explored the many ways food strengthens our connections, within families, communities, and even within ourselves.
The Fort Bend ISD Child Nutrition Department remains dedicated to fostering a love for nutritious foods and hands-on learning experiences. Thank you to our students, staff, and community members for making this National Nutrition Month a success!
