Hi! My name is Catherine Comer, and I’m so excited to be teaching 1st grade at Scanlan Oaks Elementary (SOE) this year. This is my 28th year in education and my 20th year at SOE. I’ve been fortunate to wear many hats throughout my teaching career.

I graduated from the University of Houston and began my journey in Alief ISD, teaching 1st grade. There, I was given the amazing opportunity to become a Reading Recovery teacher. I went on to serve as an ESL (English as a Second Language) Specialist for 14 years and later as a Literacy Intervention Teacher for six years.

Four years ago, I decided to return to my roots—teaching 1st grade—and I’ve loved every minute of it.

Outside of the classroom, I’m a wife and mother. I’ve been married to my incredible husband, Joe Comer, for 25 years, and we have a wonderful 22-year-old daughter named Emma.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, walking, going to movies and concerts, and spending time with my family and friends.
