• Flight School is Fort Settlement’s parent partnership initiative designed to help families support students academically, socially, and emotionally during the middle school years.

Middle school is a launch point where the expectations increase, independence grows, and the pressures, both internal and external, can rise quickly. Flight School exists to ensure families are equipped with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to help their child not just succeed, but thrive. Through intentional sessions led by counselors, social workers, administrators, teachers, and community partners, Flight School provides practical strategies that align home and school support.

    In Flight School, Families Will:

    • Understand academic pathways (accelerated courses, Credit by Exam, course planning, etc.)

    • Learn how to strengthen communication with their child

    • Gain tools to help students manage pressure and expectations

    • Build strategies that promote resilience and independence

    • Connect with campus experts and community resources

    • Partner with other families navigating similar experiences

    Why Does This Matter?

High-achieving students often carry high expectations. When families and schools work together with clarity and intention, students experience:

    • Greater confidence

    • Healthier balance

    • Stronger decision-making

    • Sustainable success

Flight School is about strengthening the ecosystem around students. When families understand systems and expectations, students feel supported, staff can be proactive, and the community builds trust around shared goals. Ultimately, Flight School isn’t just about engagement — it’s about equipping every student’s support system so they can truly SOAR.
