My name is Doose "Joy" Yakobu. My teaching experience began when I taught 5th-grade students in the summer of 2002 at a Baptist school in Nigeria, where I was born and raised. I later went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration and worked in human resources at the Federal Inland Revenue Service in Abuja, Nigeria.

I moved to Mexico City to join my husband when we got married in 2012. In Mexico City, I taught 3rd,4th, and 6th grade English language and Science. My husband and I moved to Houston a few years ago to be with family. Here in Houston, I taught 2nd grade self-contained and 4th grade Math and Social studies at a private Christian independent school before joining the Seguin family. The 2025-2026 school year will make it my 10th year as an educator, my 4th year at Seguin, and my first time as a 4th grade teacher here at Seguin.

My education philosophy is that students learn and perform their best when parents and teachers work collaboratively to help them achieve their academic goals.

I love facilitating instruction and having my students carve a path of success by making good choices in and out of the classroom, and I'm excited to see your student learn and grow this school year.
