Optional Step - Private Lesson sign up (highly recommended).
PRIVATE LESSONS:
Below is a link to a Google Form where you may sign your child up for private lessons for the 2024-2025 school year. We hire highly qualified instructors for all instruments and would prefer that your child studies with one of our recommended teachers so there is more consistency in the instruction the students receive. These teachers are experienced musicians that have been interviewed by us and certified by the district, with background checks on file, to ensure your student receives the best private instruction available.
If your student is currently taking lessons, please fill out the Google Form to let us know you intend to continue.
Lessons take place after school, beginning at 4:20pm; the last lesson spot is at 7:20pm. Each teacher will have one day of the week assigned to them. All students and teachers will be required to leave the building by 8pm.
Why Private Lessons? These lessons provide students with weekly individual help on their specific needs and also help them develop their playing skills more rapidly. Private lessons give students an advantage as they prepare for individual activities such as chair auditions in their band classes, All-Region Band auditions, and Solo and Ensemble Contest. Through participation in the private lesson program, students become better individual performers, which in turn strengthens the overall FSMS band program. Private lessons are not required, but they are highly encouraged for beginning band students as well as students in the Honors, Symphonic and Concert Bands.
When will lessons begin? Beginning Band students will not start lessons until the second 9 week grading period. Students in the Honors, Symphonic and Concert Bands who are already taking lessons may continue to do so. Students in the ensembles who have not previously taken lessons but would like to begin may start lessons as soon as their lesson teacher allows.LESSON SCHEDULING: Please do not email or call to give us your preferred day or time for private lessons. We will be communicating directly with students to set up a lesson schedule on campus, so please give that information to your child. 4:20pm is a popular lesson slot but there are only a limited number of spots available at that time. For this reason, we ask that parents and students do their best to please be flexible with the scheduling of private lessons so we can fit everyone in.
LESSON PRICE: The cost for these lessons range from $27-30 per half-hour lesson once a week (based on the teacher's credentials). You will find this to be a great return on your investment, especially when compared to the cost of most other private lessons.
LESSON COMMITMENT: Please keep in mind that this is the sole source of income for many of these instructors. Therefore, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we ask that you consider this a year-long commitment when you enroll your child in the private lesson program.
If you are interested, please respond to the Google Form by AUGUST 16TH so we will know if we need to hire any additional instructors. Private teachers like to teach at FSMS, but if we wait too long to hire them they may have already accepted teaching positions at other schools.

Parent Volunteer Opportunities
We love our wonderful volunteers! Volunteers are needed at many of our events. We have created Signup Genius links for all of our anticipated volunteering needs for the 2023-24 year. Please feel free to sign up for any events you are interested in volunteering. All volunteers must have a current FBISD background check on file with the district. This clearance renews every year on July 1st.

Cuttime Account
This year the district has moved to the Cuttime website (no longer Charms) as a way to communicate with parents and students. From the Cuttime website you will be able to check event dates/times, email the band directors, receive text message reminders, view school-owned instrument checkout and other program specific information. Join codes "Magic Links" are in the process of being sent via text. Please visit the following site for more information: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1x75u7GZaF7l-rkeMLPvQauQ04NiJtEbM/view
