• Becoming a Mentor

Thank you for considering the mentorship of a very deserving student in Fort Bend ISD.

The following is what we ask of the professional mentor:

    Fall (August - December)

    • Provide the mentee with background information on the business and specific industry in which they will be working. This may include company history, past work projects, specific language of the discipline to help the mentee get started in January.
    • In December, arrange for an orientation to prepare the student for arrival on site in January - introduction to staff, logistics on where to park, accessing the building, checking in, etc.
    • Arrange for 5 hours per week (minimum) for the student to be onsite and working with the mentor(s) come January.

    Spring (January - April)

    • Submit a field report on the student mentee once per month.
    • Outline the day-to-day activities typical of the industry, as well as its challenges and celebrations.
    • Gradually release quality tasks to the student in order for him or her to achieve confidence and independence. Tasks may occur in a sandbox environment but should be legitimate for the profession.
    • Assist the student in generating a realistic and industry-centered hypothesis to research on his or her own.
    • Guide the student through checkpoints on his or her research as deemed necessary by the mentor.
    • Attend the final GT Mentorship Showcase in April to be recognized.

Additionally, Fort Bend ISD will publicize the mentor’s business through a press release, inclusion in community relations avenues, and at the mentorship showcase. Upon agreement to mentor a student, a print-quality logo will be requested.  You will also recieve a digital FBISD Mentorship Partner logo.
