Dual Credit

  •

We offer Dual Credit courses on our campus in English and Economics (12th Grade). Pending instructor availability from Houston Community College, we also offer U.S. History for juniors and Government for seniors. All courses are offered through Houston Community College (HCC).

There are certain requirements that students need to meet in order to enroll in a dual credit course through HCC. All students who wish to enroll in a dual credit course must meet the Texas Success Initiative standards by taking the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (an exam taken at a college testing center) or be exempt. There are several ways for a student to be considered exempt from the test for the purposes of dual credit enrollment only- meaning that some of the criteria listed below only applies to students who are enrolling in dual credit courses and does not apply to students who are enrolling as full-time college freshman.

The TSI Dual Credit Exemption Policy
         • A student with an SAT score of at least 1070 and a math score of at least 500 is exempt from the math requirement.
         • A student with an SAT score of at least 1070 and a verbal score of at least 500 is exempt from the reading and writing requirements.
         • A student with an ACT composite score of at least 23 and a math score of at least 19 is exempt from the math requirement.
         • A student with an ACT composite score of at least 23 and an English score of at least 19 is exempt from the reading and writing requirements.

If a student (either sophomore or junior) does not meet one of the above exempt criteria then they will be required to take all three section of the TSI Assessment.

In order to enroll in the dual credit course a student must meet the TSI College Readiness Benchmarks (minimum scores) either through the exemption policies or by taking and passing the TSI Assessment.

Students must apply to HCC through the HCC website in order to take the CHS Dual Credit course(s). Once you have completed the application you will receive instructions from HCC . We encourage students to complete this process early so that you do not miss any CHS or HCC registration deadlines.

The information regarding registration schedules will be updated at the end of each semester.
