Ms. Lori Toney
Welcome back, Rangers!
I'm excited to be your English I or English I AAC teacher for the 2025-2026 school year! This will be my 12th year as a Ranger. I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, but I moved to Texas 16 years ago. I have been teaching for... longer than you've been alive! This will be my 17th year in total, but I love it here. I like to refer to CHS as my "forever school".
In addition to teaching, I am also a professional writer (yes, that is still a thing, despite AI)! As a freelancer, I write blog articles, email marketing texts, website copy, and so much more for an educational app company that I've been working with for the past 9 years. I truly hope that my experience with professional writing will help to give you a real-world context for improving your writing skills.
In my spare time, I read. A lot! But I also enjoy watching Netflix and HBO, and I like to channel my inner Thoreau by exploring new places, especially parks. I spend most of my time with my family; I have 13-year-old twin daughters, and a 10-year-old son. My girls are rising 8th graders at First Colony Middle School, and my son is going into his last year at Colony Bend Elementary. All three of my kids are future Rangers!
I also have two lovable furbabies. My heeler mix is 3, and she is basically the queen of my house. I also have a 2-year-old golden retriever, and he is every bit the chill, goofy dog that everyone expects from a golden. They're an odd couple, but they are the best! I probably talk about them too much since my kids no longer like it when I talk about them. Sorry!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to having yet another awesome year here at CHS, and I hope you are too!
Before you go, if you are an incoming 9th grader who will be in AAC, please see the letter below, which was sent out to all feeder middle schools in April. Summer reading is required for AAC and AP ELA courses, and you must obtain a physical copy of the book for classroom activities. If you will be in on-level English, you do not have a summer reading requirement.
