Dear Sugar Mill Families,

Welcome to the 24-25 school year!  Even though it’s still July, the most wonderful time of the year is upon us.  We’re thrilled to be back to school and share information with you about our start up next week.

SME PreK and Kindergarten Orientation:  All PreK and Kinder students and parents are invited to attend an in person orientation on Tuesday, August 6^th at 2:30 PM.  Our doors will open at 2:15 PM and our new Sparkler students should be dropped off in their assigned PreK or Kinder classroom by 2:30 PM where they will meet their teacher and classmates as well as participate in learning activities and start of school fun.  All school supplies should be labeled with your child’s name and dropped off in the classrooms during orientation.  After student drop off at 2:30 PM, parents will head to the cafeteria to learn more about Sugar Mill as well as details on the start of school. 

SME Meet and Greet: All 1^st through 5^th grade students and families are invited to come to Meet and Greet scheduled for Tuesday, August 6^th from 4:30- 6:00 PM as a come and go event in both the cafeteria as well as the classrooms.

We will have a number of tables set up in the cafeteria to join our PTA, learn about volunteering opportunities on campus, pick up your previously ordered school spirit items and learn about other student organizations.  The PTA is also offering pizza for sale by the slice and a sweet treat available for purchase on the bus ramp.  Students should bring in their labeled school supplies and drop them in their homeroom classes during Meet and Greet.  We can’t wait to see you there! 

For students who are in our special programs (ABC and CLaSS Plus), your children are invited to attend during these grade level times or choose the sensory friendly option on Tuesday, August 6th at 4 PM.  We’ll be greeting you in the cafeteria and heading to the classrooms after. 

Homeroom Teachers: For those parents that have already filled out the enrollment verification forms in Skyward, your child’s homeroom teacher will be viewable by the end of the day this Friday.  For those families that have not filled out the Skyward 24-25 forms yet, homeroom teacher information will be viewable on Tuesday, August 6^th after 10:00 AM.  Make sure to have these required forms filled in ASAP to ensure a smooth start to the school year.  Your child’s homeroom teacher will also be reaching out to you this weekend via email to welcome your child to their class.     

School Supplies: If you ordered school supplies through our PTA, make sure to label them and bring them with you to Meet and Greet.  If you are still in need of shopping for school supplies, the FBISD Elementary School Supply List is attached to this email for your convenience.

PTA Newsletter:  If you have not signed up for the PTA Newsletter, please head to the website and sign up.  It’ll head straight to your inbox at the beginning of each month to keep you abreast of important school upcoming events.  Our PTA is a fantastic campus organization and ready to assist you along the way!  We are so thankful for this organization and their commitment to helping our school accomplish our goals.  Here’s the website link for each family to join the PTA and find out about our campus volunteer opportunities: https://www.sugarmillpta.org/. 

Volunteer Opportunities: Sugar Mill LOVES volunteers!  Volunteer Approval Applications for the 23-24 school year are now available and located here: https://www.fortbendisd.com/Page/133013.  If you plan on volunteering one hour or one hundred this year, make sure to fill out the linked criminal background check application to come on campus during business hours to help. 

 School Lunch Accounts:  To add money to your child’s school lunch account, please log in here: https://www.schoolcafe.com/fbisd.  Our Café Manager will also be at our Meet and Greet on Monday to answer any questions or take cash deposits to add to your child’s account.  For families that may qualify for free or reduced lunch rates, please click here for details as the application for 24-25 opens August 1st: https://www.fortbendisd.com/Page/217.

Updated School Hours:  We have an earlier start time this 24-25 school year.  Our building opens each morning at 7:30 AM for students.  Students should arrive by 7:50 each day to avoid the AM rush.  Instruction begins promptly at 8:05 AM each day.  Any student arriving at or after 8:05 AM will be marked tardy.  Dismissal is at 3:25 PM each day.  If students have a half day, early release dismissal will be at 12:05 PM.
