Hi!  My name is Viney Mathews.  This is my third year at Sugar Mill Elementary as the CLaSS special education teacher.  I’m originally from Long Island, NY where I taught Early Childhood Intervention and worked as a preschool special education School Psychologist for over five years.  My family and I moved to Houston, TX in 2016 to pursue new adventures and we could not be happier now to call Houston our home! 

I’m so excited to continue with the CLaSS program here at Sugar Mill.  CLaSS is a district level special education program designed to meet the Communication, Language and Social Skills of identified learners.  Our team is made up of myself and three wonderful paraprofessionals.  We work collaboratively with the general education teachers and the student’s parents/caregivers to make the curriculum and learning environment accessible to our students. Our primary goal is to nurture a warm and understanding environment so our student’s feel safe to ask for help whereby increasing their social competency and academic success.
