Nominations/Referrals
- Nominations will be available online beginning August 8,2024 at GT Referral Link
- To submit a nomination, the parent/guardian must use their Family Access username and password.
- Forms must be submitted online by the September 30, 2024 deadline. No exceptions.
- If a staff member nominates a child, we must have a parent/guardian's consent to test the student.
- Students must be enrolled in FBISD and in grades K-12
- Students who are already identified for GT services in Math/Science or ELA/Social Studies may only be nominated during the SPRING window.
- Students who are already identified for GT services in all areas may not be nominated.
Assessment/Testing :
- The cognitive abilities test used in the CogAT.
- The testing window is October, 2024 (for all grades except 2nd).
- The testing window for 2nd grade is November, 2024.
- Students will test during school hours.
- Teachers must complete a School Rating Scale for all referred students.
- Rating scales serve the purpose of providing additional information and do not keep a student from being identified.
- Parents are asked to complete a Home Rating Scale that will be sent to the email you have in Skyward.
Identification
- Test scores are a rating scale. Scores are plotted on the Gifted and Talented Identification Profile.
- Students will be identified by the district.
- Students are identified for gifted services in specific content areas: Math/Science, ELA/Social Studies, or All Areas.
Notification
- Parents are notified in writing of the decision in February.
- Parents are given the right to appeal the committee's decision, as long as the request is made by the date listed in the notification letter.
Appeals
- Parents must appeal using the online GT appeal application within ten school-days as indicated in the notification letter.
- Appeals are done with the district. They are no longer done at the campus level.
