BPE 4th Grade Newsletter
8/10/2024
Dear Parents,
We are so excited about the upcoming school year and getting to know all the students!
We had a great first two days of 4th grade and are very proud of how hard your kids are working on learning our procedures and classroom routines.
A note about devices in the classroom this year:
We have had a few students ask us questions about bringing devices from home. We will use Schoology and other technology tools throughout the days starting soon. We will have classroom laptops to let students use. However, it might be helpful on days we know we will be using technology for your students to bring their personal device, (no cell phones). If your child does bring a phone to school, make sure it is on silent and in the back pack.
Reminders:
- Students may bring a healthy snack and water bottle with them daily - Please send one healthy snack only
- The tardy bell rings at 8:05
- If your child is absent, please send an absent note with them on the day they return to school.
- If your child’s dismissal changes, even if it is just for the day, you must send a note, email the teacher, or notify the front office of the change. Do not just tell your child to let us know. We need the change to come officially from you.
4th Grade Expectations:
Today we reviewed with the students our 4th grade expectations. We discussed behavior clipboard marks and the binder for student behavior reflections. We will let you know in the Tuesday folder each week how many clipboard marks your child had for the week.
We will have a sticker chart to earn prizes for positive choices, and we will start grade level reward bucks on Monday. They will earn tickets for good behavior, getting homework done correctly on time, getting agenda signed nightly, and for following the classroom and school rules. They can use their bucks to buy classroom privilege coupons.
See the attached “4th Expectations 2024” file for more information.
Fairly soon, the district is working towards using a Positive Behavior app where the students will earn digital points to spend at a school store. More info to come once that gets started.

What we will be studying week:
WRITING (Ms. Lin) – We will be brainstorming ideas to get ideas to write about. We will also be discussing how to be a good writing partner and what good feedback looks like.
For homework this week, students will decorate their writing notebooks with pictures of things they enjoy or fun memories. See the attachment for more information.
READING (Ms. Lin) – We will be working on keeping track of books that we read this year. We will also be working on picking just right books for us and jotting notes as we read.
SOCIAL STUDIES (Mrs. Grubbs) – We will begin learning all about Texas. We will start with important places and cities in Texas.
SCIENCE (Mrs. Grubbs) – This week in science students will be working on science safety, science tools, and how to set up a scientific investigation.
MATH (Mrs. Johnson) – We will be reviewing our 3rd grade math skills and starting our Numeration unit. This unit covers whole numbers up to the billions place. We will learn about place value, forms of numbers, comparing, and rounding.
We are starting our first math homework this week. Math homework will usually be 1 page front and back. It will be assigned on Monday and due on Thursday, then checked on Friday. The homework is mandatory, and occasionally there will be other extra optional bonus opportunities. Students should make their best attempt to complete it and ask Mrs. Johnson questions before the due date if there are parts they don’t understand.
