About the Domain Transition
-
To further enhance FBISD's cybersecurity, the District is migrating all online resources to our newly acquired domain: fortbendisd.gov
This new domain is more secure than our current domain, fortbendisd.com, and will allow the students, parents, our partners and the community greater trust knowing they are communicating with official Fort Bend ISD resources including websites and email addresses.
The District will maintain our current .com domain (fortbendisd.com) for the foreseeable future so all existing web links, letterhead, business cards, etc. containing .com addresses will remain fully functional during and well after this transition period, allowing students, staff and the public ample time to alert and be alerted to these new trusted contact details and to transition seemlessly to the new .gov domain.

Why is it important to move away from fortbendisd.com to fortbendisd.gov?
The internet has many Top Level Domains (TLDs) such as .gov, .edu, .org, .com and even country oriented TLDs such as .us (United States), .ca (Canada) and .fr (France, host to the 2024 Summer Olympics!).
Unfortunately anyone can register .com addresses and Fort Bend ISD's current domain, fortbendisd.com, has been the target of criminals registering lookalike domains for more than a decade causing uncertainty and sometimes leading to financial loss.
To ensure our students, staff and community can trust communications to and most importantly from Fort Bend ISD, it is essential that we migrate to a Top Level Domain that is trusted and does not allow criminals to register lookalike domains intended to confuse or otherwise disrupt trusted communications.
Note: Fort Bend ISD is not eligible for a .edu domain, only post secondary institutions (colleges, universities, etc.) can register .edu domains since a change was implemented on October 29, 2001. https://net.educause.edu/eligibility.htm -
What does this change mean for me as a student, parent, community member or district partner?
Students and Staff will receive specific instructions via trusted channels (District email, District Sharepoint sites, Skyward Family Access) on changes to how they will login and access resources. In most cases this simply means replacing .com with .gov.
For the general public no changes are required -- all current email address ending with .com will continue to work, as will websites. As transitions occur we will ensure that legacy (.com) addresses point automatically to new .gov addresses.
District partners should note that communications from the District will now come from @fortbendisd.gov email addresses. You will want to transition to utilizing these new addresses for replies or new communications and only expect official communications to come from .gov addresses (which will make it much easier to identify fraud). -
As a parent or guardian, how can I help my student login?
Details on how your student(s) can login to access District resources remains the same and is available in the Skyward Parent Access portal. If you already have a Family Access portal parent/guardian login you will find instructions for your student(s) there. If you are new to the District please contact your student's campus for access to Parent Access portal.
Note: Students will also be provided access support when they arrive on campus.
