    Dr. Lawing started his educational career at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi and earned his associate’s degree in networking technology. His next stop was Texas A&M Corpus Christi, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Occupational Training and Development, a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Educational Technology, and his doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. He is an avid lifelong learner who continues to further his education through the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO), where he earned the Registered Texas School Business Administrator (RTSBA), and was a recipient of the prestigious RISE award in 2025. Within TASBO, Dr. Lawing was the president of the Coastal Bend TASBO Maintenance and Operations group for 2 years, has taught multiple certification courses, and is a regular conference presenter. He is also a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and has presented his success in passing school bonds at the Mid-Winter Conference.
    Dr. Lawing has over 20 years of experience in school operations. In the first 15 years of his career, he worked his way through the technology department at Rockport-Fulton ISD. He then transitioned to become the Director of Operational Services, where he led the maintenance, custodial, technology, purchasing, warehouse, and safety and security departments for 4 years. He assisted RFISD in passing a $66M school bond, the first since 2011. He then had the opportunity to work at Gregory-Portland ISD, leading the construction department for 2 years and overseeing the construction of schools through a $176M school bond. The next step of his career took him to Beeville, where he became the Chief Operating Officer. During his time at Beeville, he led transportation, child nutrition, maintenance, custodial, technology, and construction services. He also helped Beeville ISD pass a $63M school bond in 2024, the first since 2008. Now he finds himself in Fort Bend ISD as the new Chief Operating Officer, humbled and grateful for this opportunity.
