Hello, my name is Daphny Ortiz. I am married to my wonderful husband, Jose' Ortiz, who is the love of my life. I have been an educator for the past 19 years. I graduated from Mcneese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. I am also "Highly Qualified" in Elementary Education, ESL and GT certified. I began my career teaching 3rd grade in Louisiana for 5 years. During this time, I earned the honor of becoming my school's 2006-2007 "Teacher of the Year." I also created the "Drama Club" and wrote, directed, and choreographed several productions throughout the years. I also had the privilege of being on the "Tech Initiative" team for 2 years, which pioneered new technology in schools and, was a trainer of new technology for the city of Lake Charles, LA.  My father was in the military and we were stationed in Alaska for 13 years. I truly consider Alaska my "home." Being homesick for Alaska, I moved back in 2010 and taught 4th and 5th grade in Anchorage for 5 years. During that time, I worked with a high school mentorship program. I trained high school students, were interested in education, how to tutor elementary-age students. I was also the chair for the Social/Emotional Learning committee to help create a positive and productive climate in our school. Being homesick for my family, I decided to relocate to the Houston area, which is only two hours away from my family, as opposed to 2000 miles away. I drove from Alaska to Texas, a feat I am very proud of, to become a teacher for Fort Bend ISD.  I taught at Goodman Elementary for 4 years, where I was honored as "Teacher of the Year" for the 2018-2019 school year.  I am currently in year 6 at Settlers Way elementary, where I teach 4th grade math and science.  Being an educator is my passion and will continue to be my life's work. I'm so excited to watch our students learn and grow this school year.
