When will my student take Health Education?
All 7th-grade students are required to take 1 semester (1/2 year) of Health Education in the Fall or Spring, depending on schedules. The female students will be taught together in my classroom (Room #904), and the male students will have a male coach in a different classroom.
What types of topics will my student be learning about in Health class?

You can also click HERE to access the Middle School Health Overview from 2022-2023 which is a document designed to provide parents/guardians/community with an overview of the curriculum taught in the FBISD classroom, including state standards, Big Ideas, Essential Questions, and Learning Objectives for each lesson. How can students be successful in Health?
I implement various methods of teaching pedagogy in my classroom. I incorporate a kinesthetic-based style that involves moving while learning. I incorporate project based learning where students are creating and/or advocating for Health topics. I have a lot of opportunities for partner & group work to bounce ideas off of peers. The best way for students to be successful in the classroom is to participate in activities and complete their work on time. I am working to create life-long learners and students are expected to be held accountable for their classwork.
Does Coach Gibson use Schoology?
Yes! Most, if not all, of the course information will be found in the current Unit folder. Communication is KEY! and I communicate through the Updates section. Students are always welcome to send me a message. The calendar will be [almost always :)] be updated with upcoming assignments and due dates.
How will students be graded in Health class?
Students are graded just like any other class they are taking. Daily Grades for in-class assignments and Major Grades for bigger projects and assessments will be taken every 3 weeks. YES, there IS A FINAL EXAM that ALL students are expected to complete. Information for the final exam will come nearly a month in advance.
I am worried my student is not getting enough Physical Activity since she is not in a Physical Education class. Will she fall behind?
Nope! Students have "Friday Free Day" in the Girl's Gym when the P.E. class has their reward day. Health students do not have to dress out. They are able to be physically active for up to 40 minutes every other Friday!
