The Career Preparation/ Work-Based Learning (WBL) course provides opportunities for students to participate in a work-based learning experience that combines classroom instruction with real-world business and industry experiences.
Additionally, Career Prep teachers assist with college and career readiness, helping students with all things related to planning and preparing for post-high school education, career, and life.
The goal of the Career Preparation/WBL program is to equip and empower every Career Prep student with the knowledge and skills required to attain career success and a lifetime of economic self-sufficiency.
Students enrolled in Career Preparation 1 at Progressive High School will be scheduled for 2nd-period Career Preparation class at Progressive HS, and scheduled to leave campus at the beginning of 8th period to attend work for their 8th-period elective credit. Students must work a minimum of 10 hours per week to earn this elective credit.
Career Preparation Requirements:
The following guidelines govern work-based learning courses:
1. Students must be employed at an approved training station within two weeks of the first day of school (or entrance into the program), or they will be removed from the program. It is the individual student’s responsibility to secure a job.
2. All training stations must be approved by the work-based learning teacher (Mrs. Fronk).
3. Students must maintain all required class records related to employment and return all related documentation to the teacher.
4. Students must submit official pay stubs every two weeks to verify the required minimum work hours of 10 hours per week to receive credit for this course.
5. A student who resigns or is terminated from a job will be given two weeks to secure another approved training station. During this time, students are required to STAY on campus during 8th period to make 3 employment contacts per day during the first week and 4 contacts per day during the second week. If employment is not secured within this period, the student will complete an unpaid training plan and must perform on-campus job duties as determined by the teacher during 8th period.
6. Students must provide their own reliable transportation to and from the training station.
