Mrs. Thomas has two Bachelors of Science from the University of North Texas and a Masters of Education from Lamar University. She has taught all grades 5th-8th and coached volleyball and track. She has also been a counselor at the middle school level and has also been an academic advisor to graduate-level students with UT Health. She is a wife and mom of two boys and a foodie. She loves working with students to make sure they can reach their goals. 

Mrs. Cardwell has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Ursinus College and a Master of Education in Professional School Counseling from the University of St. Thomas. She was a preschool and High School Special Education teacher. She enjoys yoga, gardening, and spending time with her husband, three children, and friends. She is devoted to supporting student success.

Ms. Durgens has a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Education in Professional School Counseling from University of Houston-Victoria.  She enjoys shopping, watching movies, and traveling with family and friends.  She is the proud mom of two young men and is grateful that she has the privilege of being a high school counselor.  Her favorite quote comes from the remarkable Maya Angelou, "If you're always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be!"

Hello parents and students! My name is Tysi Burrell, and I’m the Counselor for students with the last names beginning with Hua – Ne. I have been in education for 19 years, in which I’ve worn many hats doing so.  I was a former SPED Inclusion Facilitator/Teacher and Homebound Teacher, before I began my career as a Counselor. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Sam Houston State University.  I received my Master of Arts in Counseling at Prairie View A&M.  I enjoy working at Kempner and being able to support my students and families. I’m here to help you with planning your high school experience, college admissions, emotional support and everything in between.

Hi! My name is Dr. King I am a product of the Alief Independent School system where I graduated from Alief Taylor High School. I attended Clark Atlanta University and the University of St. Thomas. I started my career in education in the Houston Independent School District where I taught Social Studies, was a Team Lead, assistant cheer coach, and sponsor of the Ladies of Distinction girls mentoring program. For the last six years, I have been a school counselor. Outside of school, I am a mother to an extremely inquisitive 10-year-old boy. I enjoy reading, catching up on Grey’s Anatomy, and trail riding. I am extremely excited to be a part of the Kempner School family.
