Mrs. Joi Thomas, Lead Counselor, Sn- Z & Academies
Mrs. Thomas has two Bachelors of Science from the University of North Texas and a Masters of Education from Lamar University. She has taught all grades 5th-8th and coached volleyball and track. She has also been a counselor at the middle school level and has also been an academic advisor to graduate-level students with UT Health. She is a wife and mom of two boys and a foodie. She loves working with students to make sure they can reach their goals.

Mrs. Cardwell has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Ursinus College and a Master of Education in Professional School Counseling from the University of St. Thomas. She was a preschool and High School Special Education teacher. She enjoys yoga, gardening, and spending time with her husband, three children, and friends. She is devoted to supporting student success.

Ms. Durgens has a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Education in Professional School Counseling from University of Houston-Victoria. She enjoys shopping, watching movies, and traveling with family and friends. She is the proud mom of two young men and is grateful that she has the privilege of being a high school counselor. Her favorite quote comes from the remarkable Maya Angelou, "If you're always trying to be normal you will never know how amazing you can be!"

Ms. Tysi Burrell, Mon-Sm
Ms. Burrell holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Sam Houston State University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. With 20 years of experience in education, she has worn many hats throughout her journey. Before transitioning into counseling, she served as a SPED Inclusion Facilitator/Teacher and Homebound Instructor.
She is a proud mother to a beautiful daughter and two lovable dogs. In her free time, she enjoys dancing, traveling, and singing karaoke.
She finds great joy in supporting and advocating for her students and their families. Whether it's academic planning, college admissions guidance, or emotional support, she is committed to being a resource and champion for every student—helping them navigate high school and prepare for what’s next.
