Dr. Rolf S. Arvidson

Welcome to AP Environmental Science 2025-2026! A bit of background about me: My wife and I have lived in many different parts of the country, and have been in Texas since 1997. I hold degrees in Geology (BS, University of Washington; MS, University of Iowa) and Oceanography (PhD, SOEST/University of Hawai’i at Mānoa). This is my second year teaching AP Environmental Science and my third year at Elkins. My previous experience includes 30 years as a university researcher, oceanographer, and earth and materials scientist (Texas A&M University, Rice University, and MARUM Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, Bremen Germany). My goal in teaching earth and environmental science to high school students is to help them develop as informed, independent, and critical thinkers: they are our country's future. In addition to teaching and science, my interests also include music, computer science, and macroeconomics.
