November/December 2019 - No Place for Hate Activity
Ferndell Henry Center for Learning students were given an opportunity to create Blackout Poetry after learning about microagressions. The students learned that almost everyone uses microagressions and they affect everyone. Making the students aware of microagressions is the first step to not using them as well as learning ways to educate others about them and finding ways to turn the negative into a positive.
Teachers met during lunch to collaborate on sources to use during the lesson. Images and video clips were collected in a Schoology course so all teachers would have access.
Once the students created their Blackout Poems, the poems were collected and arranged in a presentation format by the NPFH student committee members and displayed in the Ferndell Henry Center for Learning cafeteria.

October 2019: No Place for Hate Activities
During the September meeting, the NPFH committee agreed on future activities. The activity involving IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT HATE discussion, video clips, and hands on student involvement was very successful (even though the process took a little longer than anticipated). FHCL Advisory classes collaborated and created Word Clouds to represent what they imagine a world without hate would include.
The student representatives on the NPFH committee met to decide how and where these word clouds would be displayed. The students chose a hallway between the cafeteria, library, and gym, all locations frequently visited by all students.
