    What does MCJROTC stand for?

MCJROTC stands for Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps. It is a military regulated high school program whose purpose is to educate high school students in leadership roles while making them aware of the benefits of citizenship.

    What does the program cost?

There is no cost to enter the program. The course materials, uniforms, supplies, and equipment is issued to the cadets free of charge. There are some things that a cadet might have to pay for, such as a field trip, issued equipment that is lost or damaged, or special equipment for a particular team.

Does my child wear a uniform? Are there special regulations they have to follow?

Yes. Cadets are required to wear the  MCJROTC uniform once a week on uniform day. Cadets Earn their rank and awards to be worn on their uniforms. Also, there are regulations about the personal appearance of cadets, wearing of the uniform, and even how to address the other military personnel and cadets.

Can my child still do other activities, outside MCJROTC?

Yes.  MCJROTC students are highly encouraged and some are involved in everything from varsity sports to band, choir, student government, and other clubs. Involvement in other activities outside school is also encouraged.  The program offers several additional teams (Academics, Rifle, physical fitness, drill teams and color guard) that cadets may join in additional to the normal JROTC class activities. The program may also offers field trips, summer camps, military balls, and other group-sponsored activities; however,  these offers are not mandatory for cadets to participate in, however, they do look highly upon on a college application.

How can my child enroll in the program?

If they want to be in the program it is as simple as signing the course sheet for that program. The forms are available on this page by clicking on enrollment forms.  Finally, any person can enroll in MCJROTC in any grade of high school; it is not required that they enroll in ninth grade.  However, like other CTE courses there is a progression that must be attained before advancing to the next level.

    Is JROTC a required course?

No. JROTC is not a required course at RPHS.

Is there an obligation to go into the armed services after high school?

No. There is no obligation of any kind to join any military service; in fact, most cadets do not go into the military. But for those who are interested in pursuing a career in the military, after two years in MCJROTC they can attain a promotion to the level of E2.  For those going off to college they will surely standout amoung their peers on their college application due to the program's active committment in the community.

Are the physical standards too high for my child?

MCJROTC is NOT boot camp.  However, PT (Physical Training) is required by all cadets.  So it is important that your cadet inform the instructors or provide a medical note outlining any limitations.
