All About Mrs. Hsu
Welcome to Highlands Elementary! Home of the Scotties!
Whenever you're on campus, feel free to drop by my office to introduce yourself. I would love to get to know you. First off, my last name is pronounced "shoe", like the shoe that you wear. :) I am a product of Fort Bend ISD, graduating from Clements High School (decades ago). Then, I earned a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from the University of Texas–Austin and a Master’s in Counseling from the University of Houston. I have been working in Fort Bend ISD since 2006 -- an elementary teacher for 11 years and this is my 8th year as a counselor.
Additionally, I have my licensed professional counselor certification. My past mental health work experience as a therapist in a private practice setting and a grief group facilitator at Bo's Place (in Houston) has allowed me to use techniques and perspective to help Highlands' students and families.
On a personal note, my parents are from Taiwan, and I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It has been great growing up as a 2nd generation Asian American, and I have basic conversational skills in Mandarin Chinese. I am very close to my younger sister -- We love to do many things together, and our children are only 5 months apart. We have a beautiful, funny, opinionated daughter, Sophia, who is almost 3! She keeps us busy.
I'm blessed and honored to be nominated for the Fort Bend ISD February 2025 PAC Award! Thank you, Dr. Angela Dow, for the wonderful nomination and surprise!

In February 2021, I was selected to share my experience as a school counselor in celebration of "National School Counseling Week". Here's the podcast: https://www.wevideo.com/view/2036142026
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or want to know more about our guidance counseling program!
