Fort Bend ISD (October 25, 2024) – Community members, campus administrators, district leaders and construction company representatives were among those celebrating the “topping out” at the site of the new Blue Ridge-Briargate Elementary School at 15817 Blue Ridge Road in Missouri City this morning.
Topping out, also known as topping off, is when the last steel beam is put in place in the frame of a major construction project.
Students presently housed at the Blue Ridge Elementary campus said in a special video that a few things they look forward to once their new school opens are “a bigger playground and gym…possibly gaining new teachers and more friends,” and one student added, “lunch.”
Principal Sonya Evans-Williams said, “I’m so excited that we’re to this point of the project and I can’t wait to move in. There is no limit to what the students can do in the new school.”
FBISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith said when he previously served as a district leader, two of the campuses he supervised were Blue Ridge and Briargate, so he is happy and excited to see a new campus being constructed for the consolidated schools.
“It is awesome that our students will have this new learning environment to fulfill all their academic needs and aspirations,” he said. “Thank you to the community, the parents, contractors and the school board for supporting this project.”
Board Vice President Rick Garcia told the audience, “It has been a great pleasure and a lot of fun to be involved in the process of constructing the new campus. I’m very happy for the community and the students.”
Project leaders from Rogers-O’Brien Construction and Kirksey Architecture also expressed gratitude for being able to create such an important new focal point of the Blue Ridge-Briargate community.
The $47 million campus was part of the 2023 voter-approved bond package and is set to open in fall 2025 and will have a capacity of 1,000 students.
