ELL( English Language Learners) is a program targeted at Hispanic and/or Spanish-speaking families. The program goal is to assist this population with receiving information, via classes in Spanish, about various topics related to school, academics and testing, parenting, transitioning, etc. The programs will be facilitated by the Parent Educator. The class topics are provided with the option to have additional Spanish sessions, as needed. This program is implemented on the campus.

The Latino and African-American Family Stories are designed to establish family reading routines for Spanish and English-speaking parents and their children. It involves family reading, vocabulary development, and English-language development for the Latino parents and their children. Each Family Literacy program is designed to be an educational process that encourages critical reflection and dialogue by means of reading, writing, and art projects. Each campus can choose which Family Literacy Program to implement, though it would be optimal to implement a different one each semester. This program is designed for the entire family and is implemented on campus.

FRED (Families Reading Every Day) is a reading program, in which families take time to read to and with their children at home and log the time spent doing so. The purpose of FRED is to increase the amount of time families spending reading with their children. There is one form to go home to parents for FRED, which tracks the amount of time spent reading with the children and a short evaluation of the program. Each campus will choose how to implement the program, including deciding which teachers/grade levels will participate and when, as well as how long of a program to implement, one week – four weeks. The FRED program will continue throughout the entire school year. This program is implemented mostly at home.

Heroes Inspiring Students (HIS) Creating stronger family relationship and mentorship through positive activities. HIS will promote male role models, such as: dads, uncles, grandfathers, community mentors, and strong single moms, to strengthen their relationship with their child through the positive activities illustrated in the BINGO. HIS will engage the members in various events during the school year at their school.

Parent Educators provide a variety of parenting classes to meet the individual needs of each campus. The Parent Educator will also provide monthly parent classes to support parents on topics provided by the district, which have been identified from a district needs assessment. The classes are facilitated by the Parent Educator with few expectations where special guest speakers are allowed, with Administrator approval. The classes may include topics such as test anxiety, parent-teacher conference tips, homework help, bullying, and etc. These classes are held on campus.

XLR8 ia a year-long program geared towards educating parents about social, emotional and academic changes, challenges and expectations of their children who are transitioning from Elementary to Middle school. The purpose of these programs are to prepare parents to help their children transition smoothly through the transitional grades. The parent education piece is implemented through the Parent Educators at the campus and at home.
